Beautiful Drug-Free Children

I was impressed by the splash made by the opening of Narconon Stone Hawk. But I'm even more impressed with their results.
I found this article and some additional information on the Creative Expressions blogand thought I'd share it:
Priscilla Presley speaks at drug rehab center The Enquirer
ALBION — Priscilla Presley, actress and ex-wife of the late Elvis Presley, addressed a crowd at Stone Hawk East Rehabilitation Center, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, during a celebration of the center’s grand opening Saturday.
The 120-bed residential facility is the second center to open its doors in Michigan and is located at Albion’s former Trillium Hospital on Erie Street.
Narconon Stone Hawk Rehabilitation Center of Battle Creek opened four years ago as a 100-bed facility.
Stone Hawk provides drug-free treatment for alcohol and chemical dependencies. The program follows the Narconon treatment model, using a holistic approach to addiction treatment.
Presley has long championed the Narconon program, according to Stone Hawk officials. Since Elvis Presley died from the effects of pharmaceutical drugs, Presley seeks to help others avoid the same tragedy, officials said.
Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, spoke about Narconon in the speech he gave at the grand opening of the Church of Scientology of San Francisco. Mr. Miscavige said:
And for all the materialistic advances—all the fancy cars, computers, worldwide communication—we yet see the very fabric of the culture being torn asunder with addiction, illiteracy, criminality, and immorality at all-time levels.
So if we had workable solutions, it was time to bring them everywhere, on a planetary scale, to both reverse those trends and show that something can be done about it.
First was our assault on drugs and the establishment of our Flagship Narconon in Oklahoma—as both the largest residential drug rehab facility on Earth, and as a center to train people to take it everywhere. As a result, our Narconon program now extends across thirty-seven nations while today we are consulting with the governments of China, Pakistan and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, we are also now opening new rehab centers—at the rate of one every eight weeks. So yes, we are doing something about "addiction."
Narconon Stone Hawk is an example of one of these new rehab centers, and the work it is doing is incredible as this excerpt of a testimonial of one of their students:
"I thank Narconon and all who made it possible for me to experience this wonderful life I now have."
Three months ago I arrived at Narconon with what seemed at the time only a glimmer of hope. After twenty years of heroin and methadone addiction, countless efforts of attempted help that failed, happiness as a drug free person seemed as likely as hitting the lottery at five million to one. As overwhelming as it seemed, I couldn’t bring myself to accept the alternatives; death or prison. Not without exhausting all possible solutions. Somehow I still cherished the thought of drug free existence. Happiness had its price and upon arriving at Narconon I’d decided that if I could, if it was possible, I’d make a real, genuine effort. Then, after being exposed to the loving, caring and committed staff members at Narconon, my commitment became "I can", and "I will". And sure enough, three months later I am drug free and in control of my life for the first time in my adult life.

May is my favorite month in England.
It makes the long, damp, cold winter worth living through.
Here's one of my favorite quotes by L. Ron Hubbard
" A culture is only as great as its dreams, and its dreams are dreamed by artists."

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes - Scientology Silent Birth
A great story today on an AP wire that's being picked up all over.
The baby of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is due any day.
The My Religion - Scientology blog says:
by SANDY COHEN AP Entertainment Writer
LOS ANGELES Apr 12, 2006 (AP) Tom Cruise has been practically shouting from the rooftops about his love for his pregnant fiancee, Katie Holmes. But when their much-anticipated baby is born, the superstar dad probably won't say a word.
Cruise, a longtime Scientologist who introduced Holmes to the faith, is likely to follow Scientology's practice of quiet birth. Followers believe the absence of talk and other noise in the delivery room is more healthful for mother and baby.
No one's saying publicly where baby Cruise will enter the world, but if it is at the actor's Beverly Hills home then noise control might prove a challenge. Buzzing paparazzi are already camped aside the property.
With the little one expected soon, tabloids and gossip Web sites have been rife with chatter about silent birth, spawning much speculation about what it is and isn't.
Some are sure it means the mother can't make a peep during childbirth forget the popular image of a chaotic hospital-room scene with a laboring woman spewing invectives. Others have claimed silence must be maintained for a full week after the baby is born and that Scientology opposes medical exams for newborns.
According to the tenets of Scientology, known as Dianetics, words - even loving ones - spoken during birth and other painful times are recorded by the "reactive mind," or subconscious. Those memories, adherents feel, can eventually trigger problems for mother and child.
What the doctrine doesn't say is that labouring moms can't make some noise during delivery.
"We're not going for absolute silence," said self-professed "Scientology mom" Michelle Seward. "If a sound is made, that's OK."
After years studying the faith, established in 1950 by fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, Seward went the silent route for the birth of her son, Sage, five years ago.>> more

L. Ron Hubbard Annual Tribute
Two weeks ago the annual tribute to L. Ron Hubbard on the anniversary of his birth took place in Clearwater, Florida.
Mr. David Miscavige gave the keynote address and a wonderful presentation on the expansion of the Scientology religious movement all over the world.
In the early 1980's Mr. Hubbard expressed his wish that for his birthday, what he really wants is Scientology expansion. The application of his technology in all areas and zones means a better life for the individual and that was always what was most important to him.

Linking to a Scientology web site

If I had to chose just one time of year to be in England it would have to be the early spring. When the daffodils and bluebells emerge, I know I am at home.

Favorite Scientology Quotes
One of my favorite Scientology quotes is from the Aims of Scientology
"A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights, are the aims of Scientology."
The full text of this and many other works of L. Ron Hubbard are in the book Scientology: Theology and Practice of a Contemporary Religion which can be read online at www.bonafidescientology.org

Beautiful Images of English Winter

February is not my favorite time of the year, but it's still quite beautiful. Here's a classic image of an English February, courtesy of BBC weather. This photo reminds me of the area around East Grinstead, Sussex, which is where the headquarters of the Scientology religion is located in the UK.
Speaking of UK weather, I found this interesting blog -- the UK weather blog with lots of good resources for anyone interested in the subject.
